Horizontal & Vertical test specimens that are of a woven fiber (Grospoint, denim, silk, etc.) must be tested in both the warp and fill (weft) directions. This will require 5 specimens (3”x 12”) cut parallel to the roll (warp direction) and 5 specimens (3” x 12”) cut perpendicular to the roll (fill direction).
Horizontal & Vertical test specimens of a Non-woven material (vinyl, plastic, foam, wood, etc…) require 5 (3”x 12”) specimens cut from any direction.
The pass or fail of a test is based on the average results of the tested specimens so if there is any concern on a specimen’s flammability quality additional specimens may help keep the average under the test limits.
